Presenting the Rugged Edition of our popular Ochils Bags
Continuing in our desire to use local materials for our handmade project bags, I was very excited to discover that waxed cloth is, in fact, a Scottish invention, and still being made in a traditional way in Dundee.
This sturdy cotton canvas is made splash proof using paraffin waxes - reclaiming and making use of a waste product from the petrol industry. It is a wonderful, rugged material that will naturally gain creases and scuffs with use, eventually creating a beautiful, vintage patina, and its water repellent properties will of course also keep your project nice and safe from the elements or indeed, any spillages.
The Ochils Bag itself is a roomy and sturdy project bag hand made by us here at Midwinter HQ, and features a triple internal pocket with space for notebooks and a pen. The outer layer is made from an unusual, lightly waxed 100% cotton canvas in a slate grey herringbone weave, and it is lined with a cotton fabric featuring Shetland’s iconic puffins
*PLEASE NOTE* this particular version is more lightly waxed than our regular bags and is only splash proof rather than fully water repellent.
The inside view of the bag is shown easily containing 500gr of yarn to give you an idea of capacity.
The bag closes with a roll-down construction, so it can roll down to however small the contents allow and grow along with your project. The metal clasp then forms a handy strap to carry the bag with, or hang off your arm if working on the go.
