These needlepoint designs are inspired by the rich knitting traditions of Shetland.
They make use of patterns found in traditional Fair Isle knitting, and are worked in the same Shetland wool too, all grown here on the islands.
These mini hoop designs feature the larger single motifs usually found on the tops of gloves, or in the yokes of jumpers, and come with a bamboo embroidery hoop that can be used as a frame, ready to hang.
Embers reflects the colours of Up Helly Aa, or Fire Festival Season, when Shetlanders celebrate their viking heritage with torchlit processions and galley burnings. There are 12 festivals throughout the islands, each led by a Guizer Jarl and their squad in full viking regalia, and their torches leave a trail of embers rising into the dark winter sky.
